The Průhonice Alpinum founded by Count Silva-Tarouca on the rocky outcrops extending along the Botič stream valley, is unique in the whole of Europe. Thanks to its age, size, and use of natural terrain it belongs among the oldest and largest European alpina. The Alpinum alone stretches over three hectares, and its slate terraces reach up to twenty metres in height. The various plants are placed so that visitors can see them bloom and observe attractive plants from early spring to late autumn. The Alpinum also features specialised areas: a cactus rock with cold-resistant cacti, a heath, a steppe, a water spring with wetland flora or a nook with thermophilous plants of southern origins.
