Bald – cypress (Taxodium distichum) is an interesting deciduous conifer native to North America, where it grows in swampy areas. It develops respiratory roots which also increase the static stability of the trees. The needle-like leaves are alternate on shortened side branches, unlike Metasequoia’s yew-like position. In autumn it turns an unmistakable brownish-red colour.
